Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend having your AC to be fully checked every 6 months. A checkup is not a cleaning, if a technician only sprays the filters but does not inspect the components, that is just a cleaning job.
At Airguard, we perform a full checkup with every cleaning job so you can rest assured the major components of your AC will be inspected. This includes, but isn’t limited to, checking refrigerant pressure, electrical connections, drain line blockages.
We suggest cleaning the dust filters (you can do this at home yourself) every 2-4 weeks.
A full professional cleaning can be done every 3-6 months depending on where your unit is located. If you live by a road, highway or high activity area, we recommend every 3 months. If you live further away from those, 6 months may work.
If you have shedding pets, we recommend every 3-4 months.
Your AC may need repairs if:
- Your AC runs but doesn’t cool.
- You see ice forming on the pipes or coils of your AC unit.
- Your electricity bill rises without any change in usage.
- You see leaks that don’t go away.
If you see any of these issues, give us a call at 0920 260 3928.
Generally speaking, a properly installed and maintained split-type unit can last between 10-15 years. While a similarly maintained window-type unit can last between 8-10 years.
If you have units older than the guidelines above that no longer function well, give us a call at 0920 260 3928 and we can help you through finding the right new AC unit for you.
This highly depends on your current setup. Often times, low efficiency is caused by improper installation planning. These are some common ways to improve energy usage of your AC units after installation:
- Clean your dust filter often (you can do this yourself). As often as every 2-4 weeks. This maximizes airflow and the cooling ability of your unit.
- Use your AC unit’s “ECO” mode, if it has one. This allows your unit to adjust its power based slowly over time to improve efficiency.
These are ways to ensure your unit isn’t overworked BEFORE installation:
- Pay attention to efficiency star ratings when purchasing your AC units. These are regulated by the DOE and are the closest thing we have to standard comparisons.
- Pick the right capacity AC unit for your space. Over or undersized AC capacity wastes energy. Oversizing prevents your unit from continuously running at steady, efficient operation. Undersizing makes your unit work extremely hard to cool the area.
- Place outdoor units in a well-ventilated area, away from direct afternoon sunlight, if possible. Outdoor units must be able to effectively reject heat and poor airflow or direct sunlight makes your unit work harder than it needs to.
If you need help to diagnose any issues or finding/installing a new AC unit, we’d love to help. Call us at 0920 260 3928.
Typical rule of thumb is 0.5HP for the first ~10 sqm and then 0.5HP every extra 10sqm after. But what’s less commonly known is to factor in typical number of occupants in the room, the amount of sunlight the room gets, how tall your ceilings are, etc.
If you need help deciding what’s right for you, we’d be happy to help. Call us at 0920 260 3928.
Simple commercial installations may look quite similar to residential ones, but the larger a space gets, the more factors need to be considered. For example, commercial installations will likely have multiple units cooling the same space to counteract a frequently opened door or the density of people in a space.
Depending on where the commercial establishment is, other solutions like FCUs connected to a centralized cooling system (such as in malls) may need to be used.
If you’re unsure whether your installation counts as residential or commercial, give us a call at 0920 260 3928 or check our commercial services page.
